IDC and Ondat Webinar - How to Evolve Your Data Management Strategy

Overview

Application modernization and use of cloud-native applications is a top priority for a majority of organizations to build their digital future.

IDC predicts that in order to gain business agility, enterprises will commit to modernizing over half of their existing applications by 2022, through the use of turnkey cloud-native development and deployment services. IDC's research shows that 65% of midsize and large European organizations expect to have integrated programs in place across parts of their businesses to build and deploy with microservices and containers by the end of next year.

The digital enterprise future is built on digital infrastructure comprising cloud, containers, microservices architecture, automation, and intelligent operations. Containers and cloud-native strategies are becoming de facto infrastructure building blocks to accommodate modern needs of speed, scale, and adaptability. 7 out of 10 European organizations already running more than 10% of their applications on containers.

As containers and cloud-native strategies go mainstream, they are overturning storage and data management paradigms. Ensuring resilience, data security, and keeping storage and data management overheads under control are emerging as top priorities to scale containers. Application transformation without modern data services strategy will yield limited success.

In fact, enterprises cite storage and data persistence as one of the key barriers to the broad adoption of containers alongside security, performance overheads, and integration challenges. This is because traditional data strategy has been infrastructure-centric and not application-centric.

Cloud, containers, and cloud-native applications represent a paradigm shift in enterprise IT. Digital future built on cloud and containers is also becoming a team sport involving infrastructure experts, cloud architects, DevOps teams, security professionals, and SREs to get it right.

IDC & Ondat (previously StorageOS) presented a webinar 21st October where discussions focussed on how to learn to adapt and evolve the data strategy and culture to scale container adoption. During the webinar conversations highlighted how container-ready and cloud-native data strategies can bring together the different personas architecting the cloud-native future for your organization. You will hear about the limitations of extending traditional data management practices to the cloud-native world and also learn from the best practices adopted by your peers.

Interest in containers is clearly shifting to the next level, and innovation in adjacent areas such as data management, storage and security will be key in converting this interest to a real competitive advantage.
